Baked beans with aromatic oil

I saw this recipe a couple of years ago from the famous chef Jamie Oliver. Since then, I have been cooking this flavorful beans dish often because my whole family instantly fell in love with it. I hope you will enjoy the baked beans with aromatic oil as well.

Ingredients:

  • Canned red beans – 1 can
  • Canned white beans – 1 can
  • Tomatoes in their own juice – 1 can
  • Garlic – 5 cloves
  • Onion – 1 large
  • Vegetable oil (I use rapeseed oil) – 4-5 tablespoons
  • Rosemary – 1 sprig fresh or 1 tablespoon dried
  • Smoked paprika – 1 tsp
  • Wine vinegar – 2 tablespoons
  • Parmesan – for serving
  • Bread – for serving

Cooking process

1 First of all, we prepare the fragrant oil. To do this, pour vegetable oil into a frying pan, put garlic and rosemary cut into thin slices in the same place. And simmer for 20 minutes. During this time, the oil will absorb the aromas of garlic and rosemary.

2 Add finely chopped onion and smoked paprika to the pan. Fry for 10-15 minutes. Do not forget to stir regularly.

3 Pour wine vinegar into the pan and let it evaporate. This will take a few minutes.

4 Next, we drain the liquid from the canned beans and transfer them to a skillet. Also add the finely chopped tomatoes to the skillet. Cook for another 5 minutes.

To add a little piquancy to the dish, I add a few drops of Tabasco sauce or a pinch of red pepper to the mixture. If you don’t like the spiciness of the dish, then skip this step.

5 Pass to the finish line. Preheat the oven to 160 C ( 325F). Transfer our beans to a heat-resistant form. We cover the form with foil and send it to the already preheated oven. After 45 minutes, remove the foil from the mold and bake for another 15 minutes. At the end of cooking, the sauce should thicken.

The baked beans with aromatic butter are ready. Serve on freshly toasted bread, sprinkled with grated Parmesan (or other aged cheese).

Helpful advice:
You can make more fragrant oil than the recipe needs. Apply the required amount during cooking, and pour the remaining oil into a container convenient for you. You just need to sterilize it in advance. This oil has a wide field of application. So, I use it as a salad dressing with fresh vegetables and herbs. A few drops can also add flavor to dishes such as pasta and pizza.
