Burger Sloppy Joes

Today I want to share the recipe of homemade burger. Burger Sloppy Joes- a classic dish of American cuisine. Its distinctive feature is the addition of minced meat instead of cutlet. Such a burger turns out insanely juicy and tasty.

Burger “Sloppy Joes” is a juicy minced meat with cheese, caramelized onions, pickles and all this in a soft homemade bun. But this is just one of the variations of this burger. You can safely experiment with fillings and change them to your liking. So, instead of caramelized onions, you can add pickled or fresh onions. A pickle cucumber replaced by marinated. Only the minced meat remains unchanged.

Ingredients (per 10 servings):

Minced meat
  • Beef (shoulder) – 600 g.
  • Pork (medium fat) – 200 g.
  • Onion – 1 piece.
  • Mozzarella cheese – 170 g.
  • Parmesan cheese (or other aged cheese) – 30 g.
  • Broth (or water) – 100 ml.
  • Ketchup – 2 tbsp
  • Adjika – 1 tsp
  • Smoked paprika – 0.5 tsp
  • Black ground pepper – 0.5 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Butter (for frying minced meat) – 25 g.
Buns
  • Wheat flour – 650-700 grams.
  • Milk – 350 ml.
  • Butter – 70 g.
  • Egg – 1 piece
  • Dry yeast – 1 tsp
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp with slide
Caramelized onion
  • Onion – 5 pieces.
  • Butter – 30 g.
  • Vegetable oil – 1 tbsp
  • Brown sugar – 1 tsp
  • Balsamic vinegar – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp

The cooking process

1 The first step is to make homemade burger buns.

In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, yeast and sugar. After 5 minutes, add melted butter, egg and salt there. Mix everything well.
Sift flour into a bowl. Pour the previously obtained mixture to the flour. Now you need to knead the elastic dough. We form it into a ball and put it in a bowl greased with vegetable oil. We remove the dough for proofing in a warm place for 1.5 hours.

2 While the dough is proving, you need to cook the caramelized onions.

Melt the butter in a frying pan and pour in 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. We spread the onion pre-cut into half rings there. Fry the onions over medium heat for 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add brown sugar, salt, balsamic vinegar to the onion and mix everything. Simmer the onion for another 20-25 minutes.

3 After 1.5 hours, the dough should increase in size several times. The risen dough needs to be placed for a couple of minutes. Next, divide the dough into 10 pieces and form round buns. We spread the resulting buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Grease each bun with an egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. We bake them in an oven heated to 200 C (395 F) degrees for 15-18 minutes. The buns should be lightly browned.

4 While the buns are baking in the oven, we move on to making the main ingredient in the Sloppy Joe burger – minced meat.

Scroll through the meat grinder. Finely chop the onion.

Melt the butter in a frying pan. We spread the onion and fry it for 5 minutes. We send minced meat to the onion and fry everything together for 15 minutes. After this time, add broth (or water), ketchup, adjika, smoked paprika, black pepper and salt to the pan. Mix well and simmer for 10 minutes. At the end, add the grated two types of cheese and after 2 minutes turn off the pan. In this case, the cheese should completely melt.

5 Cut the pickles and pickled jalapeno peppers. The latter can be added if you like more spicy dishes.

6 Now you need to cut the buns into two halves. It is also necessary to lightly fry each half. You can do it on an electric grill or in a dry frying pan.

7 The last stage of our delicious burgers is assembling all the ingredients together.

On the lower part of the bun spread in layers: minced meat, caramelized onions, pickle and jalapeno pepper. Also, for freshness, you can add a lettuce leaf. The juicy “Sloppy Joes” burger is ready! Enjoy your meal!
