British meatballs

British Meatballs is another delicious dish from Jamie Oliver that I enjoy cooking. Represents meat balls with cheese inside and original gravy. The gravy is very interesting for its combination of products from which it is made. This is beer and rosemary and even blackcurrant jam. And who would have thought that they would be so harmoniously combined with each other!

Ingredients:

Meatballs
  • Minced pork – 500 gr.
  • Ground beef – 500 gr.
  • Cheddar cheese – 100 gr.
  • Onion – 2 pcs.
  • Breadcrumbs – 2 tbsp.
  • Rosemary – 1 sprig
  • Worcestershire sauce – 2 tbsp.
  • Salt
Gravy
  • Ground beef – 200 gr.
  • Water – 750 ml.
  • Onion – 1 large
  • Rosemary – 1-2 sprigs
  • Light beer – 200 ml.
  • Flour – 2 tbsp.
  • Mustard – 2 teaspoons
  • Balsamic vinegar – 2 tbsp.
  • Blackcurrant jam – 1 tbsp.
  • Salt

Cooking process

1 Chop the onion and rosemary. Put in a pan with oil. Add Worcestershire sauce and a few tablespoons of water. Stir and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes. The water should evaporate and the onion should caramelize.

2 Transfer cooled caramelized onions to a bowl with minced meat and breadcrumbs. Salt and mix thoroughly. The resulting minced meat is divided into 16 parts.

Put a cube of cheese inside. Form big balls. Put the meatballs in the fridge.

3 Make the gravy.

Fry the ground beef in a preheated pan until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Add chopped onion and rosemary to the minced meat. Mix and fry for 5 minutes. Pour in the beer and simmer until the sauce darkens. Add flour, blackcurrant jam, mustard, vinegar and water. Mix well and simmer for another 30 minutes. The gravy is thick enough.

4 Meatballs can be cooked in two ways: baked in the oven or fried in a pan. I prefer the second way.

Put the meatballs in a pan with oil. Fry over medium heat on all sides until golden brown. Next, pour the meatballs with gravy and simmer for another 20-25 minutes.

British meatballs go great with mashed potatoes.
